Check-in

There are four ways to check-in for your trip: online, via the Tallink Silja Line App, at a self-service kiosk in the terminal, or at the terminal service desk. Note: check-in at the terminal service desk incurs a fee of 5 € per person.

For check-in, you will need the reservation and security number from your booking confirmation.

  • Online check-in: available 24 hours before departure.
  • Terminal check-in: available on the day of departure during the terminal’s opening hours. We recommend arriving at the terminal 30 minutes to 1 hour before departure.

Passenger registration closes 30 minutes before the ship’s departure. Late arrivals will not be registered and will need to purchase a new ticket.

Exemption:

  • For Åland, registration for passengers with cars closes 1.5 hours before departure.
  • For Paldiski and Kapellskär ports, registration closes 1 hour before departure.

Group check-in: Group leader should check in the group no later than 1 hour before departure.

Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. Tickets for late arrivals are no longer valid, and refunds will not be issued for unused tickets or coupons.

  • Please note: From 1 February 2021, a 5 EUR fee per person will apply when check-in is done at the terminal service desk.
  • Online check-in

    Available for the following trips:

    • Helsinki–Tallinn routes
    • Roundtrip on the same day between Helsinki and Tallinn
    • Tallink hotel trips
    • Turku–Stockholm/Kapellskär routes (with deck seats)
    • Turku–Åland Islands or Helsinki–Åland Islands routes (with deck seats)

For MyStar reservations with up to 1 cabin, check-in via the mobile app is available, including a digital cabin key (requires a Bluetooth connection).

Individual passengers (1-24 passengers) traveling on foot or with a vehicle can register tickets online or via a smart device. This applies to all vehicle categories that can be booked on the Tallink website (up to 2 vehicles per booking) for MyStar, Megastar, and Victoria I ships.

Check-in availability: Ticket registration opens 24 hours before departure and closes 30 minutes before departure. The contact person in the reservation will be notified about online check-in one day before departure (if the trip is booked more than two days in advance).

Check-in at the terminal is required for reservations that include cabins, non-Tallink hotels, additional services beyond meals, or unpaid reservations.

  • Vehicle check-in

Passengers traveling with vehicles must check-in at the car check-in using their ticket, travel document, and vehicle registration certificate.

    • Vehicle dimensions: During check-in, the vehicle’s length and height will be measured. If your vehicle exceeds the reserved dimensions, you will be required to pay the price difference, provided there is space on the car deck.
    • Check-in opens: 1.5 hours before departure at the terminal and 24 hours before departure online or in the app.
    • Bicycles: Access the ship through the vehicle check-in gates via a designated lane for cyclists. It is recommended to bring a bike lock and follow staff instructions.

When the ship arrives at its destination, the vehicle must leave the ship immediately (even at night).

    Maximum height of vehicles:

    • Olympia terminal: 3.5 m
    • West terminal: Lane No. 11 allows a maximum height of 4 m, while other lanes have a limit of 3 m. If Lane No. 11 is closed, passengers can walk to the terminal for check-in and board the ship through the staff gate.

Priority car check-in: Uses the business class lane. A special tag will be issued for the mirror during check-in. Arrive at least 1 hour before departure to ensure priority service.

Business Lounge passenger cars are parked to ensure priority exit. Club One gold members are not guaranteed priority exit.

  • Self-service kiosks

Self-service kiosks are available in all terminals, offering an easy and quick way to check in.

    • Eligibility:
    • Individual passengers (1-24 passengers) traveling without a vehicle can check in using the self-service kiosk.
  • Check-in time:
  • Self-service check-in is available on the same day of departure from the terminal where the ship departs.
  • Registration opens at 06:00 and closes 30 minutes before departure.
  • Partial check-in:
  • Check-in can be done for some passengers within a booking. For example, one passenger can check in while the other passengers in the same reservation can check in later.
  • Restrictions:
  • Check-in is not possible if only minor children are included in the reservation.
  • Other activities available at the self-service kiosk:

  • Important tips
  • Group check-in

Group check-in procedures may differ depending on the terminal. In most cases, groups have a dedicated check-in counter where the group leader can pick up the group’s boarding passes and any additional services by presenting an ID.

    Exceptions

Please note that there is no separate group check-in counter at Terminal D in Tallinn, Mariehamn, or Långnäs. In these terminals, group leaders can check in at the regular counters.

  • Instructions for bus drivers

    1. Collecting tickets

Bus drivers must collect their tickets inside the terminal rather than at the vehicle check-in. This can either be done by:
