Planning to travel on Tallink Silja Line ships? Here’s everything you need to know about age limits, rules, and special requirements for minors and youth groups.
Key definitions:
- Family member: A parent or legal guardian of the travelling child.
- Supervisor: A person authorized by a guardian to supervise a child under 18.
The supervisor must have reviewed and signed the necessary Tallink Silja Line documents, agreeing to be responsible for the child and compensating for any damages caused.
Essential travel documents:
- Travel permission: This document must be filled out and signed by a parent or legal representative, allowing a 15 to 17-year-old passenger to travel alone. It confirms that the parent or guardian consents to the minor traveling without an adult.
- Travel authorization: This document is signed by a parent or legal guardian, authorising another person (such as a family member or supervisor) to act as the minor’s supervisor during the trip. The supervisor agrees to take full responsibility for the child throughout the entire journey.
- Questionnaire for the supervisor: A supervisor’s signed agreement to be responsible for the child aged 0-17 years during the journey.
Important notes:
- The person booking the trip must meet the age requirements.
- The person booking the trip is responsible for ensuring that all authorizations are in order.
- Consent forms must be carried and shown upon request.
- If proper documentation is not provided, the shipping company is not responsible for additional costs, and no ticket refunds will be given.

- Youth groups
A youth group is defined as a group with 10 or more people, including passengers under 18, a group leader, and supervisors (if necessary).
- The number of youth groups allowed on each departure is limited, so it’s important to mention the group type when making the booking.

Supervisors must know the members of their group, and there should be one supervisor for every 10 members.
Check-in procedures for youth groups
- The group should arrive at the terminal 1.5 hours before departure.
- The group leader is responsible for overseeing the check-in process for the entire group. This includes ensuring that the cabin numbers for all young people under the leader’s responsibility are correctly entered on the supervisor’s form.
- Boarding the ship: Group leaders must board the ship together with their group. Upon boarding, the original group leader/supervisor form must be presented to the security staff, who will also check the boarding cards.
- The security staff may request group members to present proof of identity at the time of check-in.
- The group leader is also responsible for ensuring that all group members have the necessary and valid travel documents and the required permits for traveling with the group.
